In the Garden of Eden, there were two trees specifically talked about: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Revelation, knowledge about Christ, His plan and purpose for man, salvation, etc., are received from the tree of life. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Therefore Christ and His Word are the truth, our absolute authority flowing from God’s throne through the tree of life revealed to us through Christ and his word.
Psychological truth, other than that which is revealed in God’s Word, must come from the tree of knowledge. Not all that comes from this tree is evil, as many writers might suggest, but some natural truth is good and usable in our daily lives. The key is to be able to ferret out the jewels from the junk: the good knowledge from that which is evil.
All of us see things slightly differently. The report given by different people of the same event can be vastly different. Men and women throughout history have seen and recorded events, made hypotheses and conclusions, some of which have withstood the tests of time (for example the law of gravity), others have been modified when new knowledge was uncovered (for example the theory that the sun revolved around the earth).
The key understanding for us is that the truth is what we seek for ourselves and others, the source of all truth is God, and biblical truth is always superior to natural or scientific truth. Helping people find their way, know the Truth and live the life of Christ in the world is our goal.
In our next blog, we look at the Need for Caregiving…until the next time.
