I don’t think many would argue that Jesus was the greatest of leaders having the heart of the father, and an eternal focus, he set his face like flint on the cross. In John 13-17, Jesus demonstrated in his ministry the grace and truth of God. He set his attention on preparing his disciples, his friends, for the cross and all to follow. The road they had walked together was no doubt a long, dusty, dynamic, and triumphant road, and it was coming to an end.
Now as he sent out Peter and John to find a man carrying a water pot (something men almost never did), he set his heart on the preparation. Preparing for his death, burial and resurrection, and the outpouring of the promised one, Holy Spirit. All of this preparation, his teaching, healing, and deliverance was coming to a dramatic close … and an incredible new beginning. The vision of heaven coming to earth in Christ and the expansion of the father’s family was indeed being fulfilled, but with many important lessons left to learn. The Prelude to the end had begun, the first of seven principles of leaders from Jesus.
